Martco Calls Upon Johnson & Pace Once Again

The Industrial Design Team at Johnson & Pace knows the in's and out's of the lumber industry. Engineer Robert Cooper brought to Johnson & Pace over 30 years of engineering experience when he joined the firm in 2003. Cooper has designed numerous sawmills, OSB plants, plywood plants, poultry processing facilities and the associated office and warehouse facilities. One of Cooper's most loyal clients, Martco Partnership, out of Alexandria, LA, has relied on Cooper for over 20 years for numerous site work, foundation, structure, equipment, piping, rail spur and full plant designs.

In late 2004 Cooper began work on Martco's new OSB Plant in Oakdale, LA. Teaming with Mid-South Engineering Co., Johnson & Pace provided all the site development engineering services, as well as all concrete and area paving design, foundations and structural steel design. Cooper and his team also designed the new rail spur that runs through the plant and are currently finishing the design for the replacement of the plant entrance road.

In the following year, Martco asked for Johnson & Pace's expertise in the design for their Chopin Plywood Plant Expansion. Johnson & Pace once again teamed up with mechanical engineering company Mid-South Engineering Co. and provided all the site development engineering services, concrete and area paving, foundations and structural steel, including walkways and catwalks. Cooper and his team also designed the thermal oil piping and VOC duct systems for the plant, as well as the rail spur that runs into the plant.

"The wood products industry is always changing and developing better ways to produce the products. After designing several plants and compiling an incredible team of design technicians, we have found how to streamline the design process and can complete these projects in shorter amounts of time and at less cost to the client," says Robert Cooper. "The client's satisfaction is our primary goal, and we are continually striving to provide the best possible design at the lowest cost for our clients."
